Uluru 11/8/2010
First glimpse of Uluru.
On the way in to Yulara
After parking the caravan we go exploring to Uluru.
7.5km walk around the bottom of the rock,
shows off all the shapes and colours.
The texture of the rock.
Lorraine amongst the patterns.
Multi coloured faces
a legless lizzard on the path.
only about 200mm long
lots of sacred sites around the bottom.
No access to them.
a waterhole at the foot.
someone scribbled on the wall some 20000 years ago.
eroded wave form
Taking a photo of taking a photo.
another waterhole, permanent water out in the desert!
Is that a smiling face?
The far end of the rock.
and the other side.
Looks like a skull
the colour changes as you turn around the rock.
Surf is up!
curled wave top
overhanging rock
this shows the natural colour of the rock.
the red appears after oxydasation.
After the walk we look back from the sunset viewing station.
sunset clolours
more
and more
and darker
pretty dark red.
that is from the camp at Yulara,
some 15 km away from the rock.
and for a change one in the morning.
