Kings Canyon 14 - 15/8/2010

The entrance to Kings Canyon Into the canyon a variety of flowers in bloom the canyon walls are smooth lush green at the bottom Pools of water at the base Flowers and wild life in plenty. Lots of small birds View of the range from the resort the canyon is in there. On the way up to the rim of the canyon The side of the hill looks like a planted botanical garden, all natural. near the top looking across. we walk amongst domes stacked layers like pancakes Waves on ocean beds millions of years old. Looking into the garden of eden. deep in between domes is the garden of eden. looks like paradise. unusual structure ancient sediment layers more flowers melons, melons evrywhere. Wild and not edible for humans.

More rocks in the distance. Kata Tjuta or the Olgas Completely different type of rock and shapes. over 50 domes make up Kata Tjuta. a short walk takes us up in between 2 domes. very steep walls. great colour. This formation is made up from a conglomerate, dating back over 100 million years. A 6 km walk takes us around one of the domes . much more interesting than Uluru. more plant life and great views. lush greenery in pockets where there is a watertrap. and up in between the domes,quite steep climb up and back down the other side. the outlook is well worth it. This is called the valley of the wind. another group of domes behind. looks dry again out in the open. and back through here  at the end of the loop

First glimpse of Uluru. On the way in to Yulara After parking the caravan we go exploring to Uluru. 7.5km walk around the bottom of the rock, shows off all the shapes and colours. The texture of the rock. Lorraine amongst the patterns. waves and gullies  a waterfall, but there is no water flowing Multi coloured faces a legless lizzard on the path. only about 200mm long lots of sacred sites around the bottom. No access to them. a waterhole at the foot. someone scribbled on the wall some 20000 years ago. eroded wave form Taking a photo of taking a photo. another waterhole, permanent water out in the desert! Is that a smiling face? The far end of the rock. and the other side. Looks like a skull the colour changes as you turn around the rock. Surf is up! curled wave top overhanging rock this shows the natural colour of the rock. the red appears after oxydasation. After the walk we look back from the sunset viewing station. sunset clolours more and more and darker pretty dark red. th...
