The long way round ! 2010-11

That car was overtaking us around a bling corner about 10 minutes earlier. Young inexperienced driver going to fast. Lost control and rolled it 2 to 3 times. Total write off. Don gets into action with the winch. start pulling. nearly right way up. Does not look so good. Drag it off the road. Just lucky, nobody got hurt. The long and windy road home. More than 550km in one day on the dirt road.

Thursday Island is the administrative Centre of all the Torres Straight Islands. Only a short Boat ride from Seisia. View from the Fort This was built to stop the Russians from attacking . Another crossing with a deep hole on the left. Still ok, not too deep. That is the good part of the road! a change, the log bridge at Cypress creek. Just fits. Very slowly does it.

Just one of the Water crossings. Always walk through first and find the right way. Yes, that is the road!! A little bit more complex crossing.  Straight across would lead into a big hole! there are a lot of deep washouts. Only one way to go. The road is there somewhere, can you spot it? Just on the right of the washout, very close to the edge. about 2m deep if you fall in.

Yes That is the road!!!! the famous Gunshot as it is at the moment. very slowly still hanging on. bottomed out on the bumper. But it came out with a little bent bumper. all the previous and now impassable ramps down. a collection of bits and pieces left behind by cars coming down the gunshot! No, we did not attempt this one, this is extreme 4WD territory.
